2011 DRIZZLE
Pinot Gris

Tasting Notes
Our 2011 Drizzle is a refreshing year-round sipper. Aromas and flavors of pear, lemon, melon, and green apple candy converge with just a touch of sweetness in a long, silky finish. Enjoy slightly chilled with roasted chicken, turkey, cheese and crackers, tomato sauces or just by itself.

Winemaker’s Notes
Our first grapes of the 2011 harvest were hand-picked from Ciel du Cheval vineyard in Washington's Red Mountain AVA on September 19, 2011 and brought to Woodinville for processing.

The fruit was loaded into a pneumatic bladder press where the grapes were pressed "whole cluster" (they were not crushed or destemmed prior to pressing). After about two hours of gentle pressing, the Pinot Gris juice was transferred to a settling tank for several days. We then transferred the settled juice to stainless steel tanks for a two week fermentation.
After fining and filtering, Drizzle was bottled on October 12.

Vintage Notes
The 2011 vintage was one of the coolest in recent years. A November 2010 freeze damaged vineyards throughout the Columbia Valley. Projected crop reductions of 20% came true. Much like 2010, a cool spring delayed bud break and flowering. Cool and wet weather in May and June created mildew issues in some vineyards. However, a warm and dry August and September helped grapes ripen, although a week or two later than 2010. Near perfect October weather allowed grapes to hang on their vines longer, leading to more balanced sugars and acid in many varietals.
